IBADAN (FIC’ Report)- The Central Bank of Nigeria has handed over a newly completed Electronic Library, Lecture and Administrative blocks of the Technical University (TechU), Ibadan to the Oyo State government in line with its intervention towards improving the state’s education sector.
According to the statement released to the Press by the Head of Information Centre, Ibadan, the hand over which took place at the permanent site of the University at Ajayi, Community, Lagos-Ibadan expressway was received by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Olalekan Alli, on behalf of the State Government on Thursday 20 April 2017.
Among the buildings which were constructed on about 3.6 acres of land are “Central e-library space for 500 students, with 10 numbers of offices, 12 numbers of toilet facilities as well as block of 24 lecture rooms which has 11 numbers of administrative offices, furniture, boreholes, generating set, street light, CCTV Camera, air conditioners and additional toilet facilities for both male and female students.”
While receiving the project documents, Alli assured that the building donated would be put to adequate use by the University, while additional developments on the 200-hectare University as well as security around the vicinity would be prioritized.
“We appreciate the efforts of the Apex bank to support and develop our education sector. The CBN has showed that education is key to the development of the country. We say, thank you to the management and the entire staff of the bank for this gesture and we assure that the buildings will be adequately put to use immediately,” he promised.
Alli also disclosed that the first set of students will matriculate in September 2017.
The CBN Branch Controller in Lagos, Mr. Omebere Iyari commended the state government for the initiative in establishing the Tech U, Ibadan, adding that the unique institution will impact positively on technical skills development and education in the country.
He explained that this act by CBN has demonstrated that the apex bank thinks beyond monetary and fiscal policies, stressing that the bank has a lot of intervention programmes towards education, agriculture and other sectors of the economy.
Present at the event were the Pro-Chancellor of Tech U, Ibadan, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Arulogun Toye, among other top government functionaries.
