ABUJA (State House Report) – Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, on Tuesday donated relief materials to 300 women who recently relocated to Magumeri Local Government of Borno State following relative peace. Magumeri was one of the councils sacked by Boko Haram at the peak of the insurgency making residents of the town to flee for safety in Maiduguri.

Aisha Buhari who was represented by Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, the Secretary of the Committee on Relief Items, said the gesture was to cushion the hardship on victims.

“The President’s wife had earlier taken the same gesture to some local governments in the state, which include Gwoza, Askira Uba, Mafa and Dikwa. The items are nutritional food donated by the Get Involved Initiative under Mrs. Buhari’s Future Assured Programme, where individuals, agencies, parastatals, her friends, associates and organisations put hands together through the office of the First Lady to assist victims of violence in the country,” Hajiya Gambo said.

“The items include 1,200 bags of semovita, 500 cartons of fortified action meal and non-fortified meal, ninety bags of 25kg rice, two bundles of blankets, cartons of milk and detergents, among others.’’

She stressed that the committee was continuing with distribution of relief items to IDPs who had returned to their homes. “Now that peace has been restored by our gallant troops and our IDPs back home, we deem it fit with my friends, associates and well wishers to assist our people with nutritional food.”

“I believe this gesture which will be extended to all parts of this country affected by violence, we encourage those still leaving in camps go back to their liberated communities”, she said.
