Osinbajo lauds NIAF compendium of achievements

ABUJA (VP’s Office’ Report)- The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), while launching the compendium of achievements of Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility (NIAF), which took place at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on Tuesday September 20, 2016, commended NIAF for its accomplishments.

Prof. Osinbajo who expressed delight in the NIAF programmes, said that the event was a celebration of a strong and enduring relationship between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the United Kingdom. He observed that NIAF has been able to deliver on budget as promised with notable achievements to date.

He noted that NIAF has shown a strong plan focus, flexible working relationship with many of the key Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Nigerian Government, especially towards a transparent infrastructure and capacity building.

Continuing he stated that, NIAF’s efforts in development since the take off in May 2015 has upheld the required prescription emphasis of management and evaluation towards a more transparent and effective Government that provides the fringe benefits for its citizens.

While stressing the commitment of the present administration to the change agenda, he noted that since taking office in May 2015, one of the key areas of focus is revitalizing the Nigeria’s economy. Adding that the support that the Department for International Development (DFID) through NIAF program has been immeasurable.

“NIAF’s scope towards the enhancement of Nigeria’s infrastructure reform, towards power sector reform, transport, roads and climate change and urban planning development align with the value agenda of the government”.

He restated that infrastructure is critical to economic growth, reducing poverty and improving life opportunities for millions of Nigerians. According to him, improved infrastructure increases job creation, income, security that encourages entrepreneurs in Nigeria, observing that NIAF has proved itself invaluable in these regards.

While officially launching the compendium, Osibanjo assured that infrastructure was critical to sustainable growth, stating that he looks forward to working with the facility in the next phase as the program comes to an end. He expressed appreciation to DFID/NIAF for their support and partnership with the Federal Government in completing the process, which enables it to deliver change to ordinary Nigerians across the country.

Speaking earlier, the Chief Economist, DFID, Ben Mellor said that the event was a gathering to celebrate partnership in progress and collaborative efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria and DFID / NIAF over the last five years. He said the United Kingdom remains committed to work with Nigeria.

Delivering his vote of thanks, the Managing Director of NIAF, Mark .T. Omlinson, expressed great appreciation to the Federal Government for the confidence and trust that was reposed in the program, noting that Nigeria has been able to make unique developments especially in the power sector.
