FIC Report (Abia State) – The political structure in Abia State has been seriously hit and shaken by the wind from the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi who defeated both the PDP and the APC Presidential candidates in Abia State with 327,095 votes against 22,676 votes for PDP and 891votes for APC.The Labour party Presidential candidate won in all the 17 Local Government Areas of the State with wide margins.The Abia State Presidential Election Returning Officer, Professor Abel Ezeoha who declared the result at the INEC Abia headquarter Umuahia, said the total number of registered voters were 2,120808 and the accredited voters were 384,468.He said the rejected number of votes was 11,646 and the total number of votes cast was 381683, while the Labour party scored 327,095 votes, PDP 22,676 votes, APC 8,914 votes , APGA 3,943 votes , NNPP 1239 votes amongst others.Again, the Labour Party won the Abia Central Senatorial District election as the Candidate Hon.Darlington Nwokocha, who is the incumbent House of Representative Member for Isialangwa North and South Federal Constituency was declared the Winner by the Abia Central Senatorial Returning Officer, Professor Udo Herbert who said he got 92,116 votes to defeat the PDP candidate, the former Minister and National Executive Member of the PDP, Col. Austin Akobundu who scored 41,477 votes to come second, while Samuel Ifeanyi Onuigbo of APC got 7,997 votes, Barr. Ahamdi Nweke of APGA got 4,637 votes, APP got 2,348 votes etc.Mr Peter Obi’s wind again turned the table of the political structure in Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency with as many least expected that the intensity of the wind could pull down such a strong political structure where the Labour Party candidate for Ikwuano Umuahia Federal Constituency, Chief Obi Aguocha polled a total of 48,199 votes to defeat the Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly of the PDP who scored 35,196 votes to come second in that political battle as declared by the Returning Officer, Professor Uma Kalu Oke.Furthermore, the Labour Party’s wind hit Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency thereby dismantling the political structure of Rt Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha who has been representing the Constituency for the past 16 years to a sudden end.The Labour Party Candidate Chief Amobi Ogah who is the younger brother of the former Nigeria Minister of State for Mines and Steel, Dr Uche Ogah defeated the incumbent House of Representative Member, Rt . Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha to emerge as the House of Representative Member-Elect for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency.The Returning Officer for Isuikwuato/ Umunneochi Federal Constituency , Barrister Nneoma Nnochiri who declared chief Amobi Ogah winner said he scored 11,769 votes while Nkeiruka Onyejeocha of APC polled 8,752 votes, Loveth Ofoegbu of PDP scored 6,760 votes, Onyinyechi Rufus-Obi of APGA got 1,998 votes among others.It is interesting to point out that the first beneficiary of Mr Peter Obi’s wind impact is the current Member represent Isialangwa North at Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe of the Labour party who defeated the former Chief of Staff to Abia State Governor, Chief A.C.B Agbazuere of the Peoples Democratic Party.Hon. Ginger Onwusibe who is a known grassroot Politician with the Otawike political structure polled a total of 20,411 valid votes against Chief Agbazuere who scored 13,508 votes.However, the current Senator representing Abia North, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu narrowly escaped Mr Peter Obi’s wind impact as Senator Orji has been declared the winner of Abia North Senatorial District by INEC.The Returning Officer for Abia North Senatorial District, Mr Chinedu Nnamdi said Senator Orji of the APC polled a total of 30,805 votes to defeat the Labour Party Candidate Chief Nnamdi Iroh who polled 27,540 votes while the PDP candidate Senator Mao Ohuabunwa scored a total of 15,175 votes and another APC candidate that emerged Winner, Hon Benjamin Kalu, the current Member representing Bende Federal Constituency who defeated Hon Nnenna Ukeje of the Peoples Democratic Party.It will interest you to also note that the present Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly under PDP, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu lost the poll to the Labour Party candidate, Mr Obi Aguocha, also the incumbent Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu lost his Senatorial bid to the incumbent Senator representing Abia South Senatorial zones with great margins as the Governor Dr. Ikpeazu came third in the exercise.The Returning Officer for Abia South National Assembly elections, Georgina Ugwuanyi, announced this before party agents at the collation centre in Aba.Mrs Ugwuanyi, a Professor of Banking and Finance at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, said she had to return to declare results for the election because she was asked by INEC office in Abuja to announce Winners in the election.Earlier, Mrs Ugwuanyi had told party agents that a substantial number of polling units, totaling about 108, had irregularities requiring a reschedule of the Abia South elections.She said Mr Abaribe got the highest number of votes in the election, having scored 49,903 votes.She further announced that the Labour Party (LP) Candidate, Chinedu Onyeizu, scored 43,903, while Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party scored 28,422 votes to come third.The Returning Officer also announced the results of the Aba South and North Federal Constituency, with the LP Candidate, Emeka Nnamani polled 35,502 to clinch the seat.She said that Alex Ikwecheghi of APGA polled 22,465 votes, while the incumbent Representative, Chimaobi Ebisike, of the PDP scored 13,388 votes.Mrs Ugwuanyi, therefore, declared Mr Nnamani the winner of the House of Representatives election.As Mr Peter Obi’s political wind continues to blow , jubilation erupted in Abia State as INEC declared Sir Alex Chioma Otti, Winner of the 2023, Guber poll.The Labour Party Candidate, Alex Otti, has been declared the Winner of the Abia State Governorship Election following the eventual declaration, on Wednesday , March 23 of the results of the controversial Obingwa Local Government Area.With the conclusion of the collation of the outstanding results of the Election, the Peoples Democratic Party scored 9,962 votes and while the Labour Party, 3,776 votes in the Obingwa LGA BVAS captured result.Consequently, the LP has won in 10 LGAs, the PDP in six LGAs, and the Young Peoples Party, YPP, in one LGA.The Governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Abia State, Chief Alex Otti, was, consequently declared the Winner of the 2023 Governorship Election in Abia State.Otti polled a total of 175,466 to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the PDP Okey Ahaiwe who scored 88,526.The Returning Officer, Prof. Nnenna Oti, declared the LP candidate the winner at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Umuahia.In an earlier development the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured more seats than any other party in Abia State House of Assembly according to the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission on 19th of March, 2023.PDP won 11 out the 24 seats in the March 18 election. It was followed by the Labour Party (LP) with 10 seats.
