6th National Council on Hydrocarbons Kicks Off in Port Harcourt

The 6th National Council on Hydrocarbons has commenced in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The programme was today, Tuesday, 16th November, 2021, declared opened by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Dr. Nasir Sani Gwarzo, mni.

In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, whose address was read by the Director, Human Resources Management of the Ministry, Dr. Famous Eseduwo, stated that; “the National Council on Hydrocarbons, our Ministry’s annual event is a forum for gathering ideas that will propel good formulation and implementation in Oil and Gas Sector”.

The PS remarked that the 6th National Council on Hydrocarbons with the theme: “Unlocking the Potentials and Prospects of Nigerian Oil and Gas (Energy) Industry through Efficient Implementation of PIA, 2021” was quite unique and crucial, as it was the first gathering following the recent passage and signing into Law of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), 2021.

Dr. Gwarzo, reiterated the mandate of the Ministry to include policy formulation, supervision of policy implementation, regulating the Oil and Gas Industry as well as delivering a thriving Oil and Gas Industry for Nigeria among others.

He thanked the government and people of Rivers State for accepting to host the Council and for the conducive environment provided.

In his welcome address, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom Wike appreciated the leadership of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources for giving Rivers State the hosting right for the 6th National Council on Hydrocarbons. The Governor who was represented by the State’s Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Dr. Peter Medee said the government and people of Rivers State were greatly delighted to host the Council in Port-Harcourt. He stated that the programme was key to the Governor, hence his resolve to graciously approve the hosting.

In his presentation, the Chairman, Organizing Committee of the 6th NCH and Director, Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS), Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Mallam Musa Sa’eed Talle, informed Council on Matters Arising and updates on the status of implementation from the 5th NCH held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State in 2020.
