Abia Controller of Corrections warns new Recruits against unwholesome acts with Inmates

The Controller of Corrections, Abia State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service transactions with the inmates, especially trafficking on illicit drugs and communication gadgets.

The controller gave the charge in Umuahia on Friday during a ceremony to mark the end of the one-month induction course for the new intakes in Abia.

He said that the service frowned against those illegal transactions between the staff and inmates in the area of trafficking on those drugs such as cannabis, tramadol as well as communiications gadgets like phones anong others.

He urged them to work conscientiously and touch the lives of the inmates because they were going there to “re-adjust the mala-adjusted.”

“You are very fortunate to be among the people recruited because so many people applied for this but were not successful.
“As the first set of officers recruited for the service, a lot is expected of you.I enjoined you to be law-abiding and be professional because the service will not condone any form of indiscipline,” he said.

Ezugwu commended the intakes for their loyalty throughout the induction course and charged them to accept their postings in good faith.

The Staff Officer and Assistant Controller of Corrections, Mr Augustine Nnubia said that the 108 intakes comprising 76 males and 31 females were being posted to three major correctional facilities in Umuahia, Aba and Arochukwu.

He said that the intakes were all indigenes of Abia either by birth or marriage, whose selections were based on merit from the 17 local government areas of the state.
The Nigerian Correctional Service Act 2019, was recently enacted, which repealed the Nigerian Prisons Service Act, as parts the Federal Government reform services.
