Agba briefs House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development

Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba has officially briefed members of the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development  about President Buhari’s approval for commencement of the institutional process of the successor plan to the Economic Recovery Growth Plan. The successor plan is the Medium Term National Development Plan (MTNDP 2021-2025).

Speaking while receiving the Committee members who were on an Oversight visit to the Ministry, Agba said ‘’the President is committed to having a true national development plan, which is why he approved that the plan should be led by organized private sector while the government will be an enabler’’

The Minister said that Mr Atedo Peterside was to be Chairman of the Steering Committee while it would be co- chaired by the Honourable Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning (HMFBNP), Mrs. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed.  He added that the HMFBNP would also be the link between the steering committee and the government.

The Minister stated that the Ministry’s primary responsibilities were to come up with strategies to develop the National Development Plan for the country and flowing from the priorities in the National Development Plan, make the budget proposal which would eventually be forwarded to the National assembly for Mr President’s assent.

Earlier, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Olododo Cook Abdulganiyu Saka, pointed out that as partners, their visit was to appraise the activities of the Ministry and find ways of possible collaboration in order to move the sector forward.

The Permanent Secretary, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Olusola Idowu, in her vote of thanks, expressed her gratitude to the committee for their willingness to collaborate with the sector in achieving its objectives.

She also said that the Ministry would continue to reciprocate the gesture by doubling its efforts in the formulation and coordination of implementation of plans, programmes and projects to achieve its developmental efforts.
