Anambra State Government to Establish French Centre in Awka.

FIC Report (Anambra State) – The Anambra State Government has concluded plans with the French Embassy in Nigeria, to establish Alliance Francaise, in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

This was disclosed by the State’s Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Kate Omenugha during the closing ceremony of a two-day Workshop organized for French Language Teachers in Anambra State, held at the Basic Education Board Conference Hall, Awka, recently.

According to the Commissioner, the importance of speaking French Language cannot be overemphasized, in today’s world which has become a global village.

She therefore charged the Teachers to make use of the knowledge acquired, to impact on their students in their respective schools, pointing out Tha, the Anambra State Government intend to earnestly commit to the teaching and learning of French Language, as it would open cultural and educational diversity.

She commended the representatives of the French Embassy for their indepth analysis on modern teaching methodology and assured them of the State Government’s plans to have Alliance Francaise in Awka.

The Director, Alliance Francaise in Owerri, Imo State and a Resource Person at the workshop, Dr. Fred Amechi, stressed that learning the French Language opens up opportunities for higher education in some best known Universities in France. Also, students with good grasp of the French Language, may be eligible to apply for a French Government Grant to enroll in a post graduate degree.

The President, Nigerian Association of French Language Teachers, Mr. Godwin Ezeuchegbu, stated that, retraining of French Language Teachers in Anambra State was a dream come true and assured of the Association’s commitment to impact positively on those who want to learn the French language.
