The Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), has commended the out-going permanent secretary of the Ministry, Mr Bassey Okon Akpanyung, on his dedication to duty, selfless service and above all consideration for the welfare of staff of the Ministry.
Gen. Dambazau stated this at the valedictory ceremony organized for the permanent secretary on his retirement by the management and staff of the Ministry of Interior.
While reminiscing on his first meeting with him, and the pleasurable journey of working together from then till now, the Minister predicted that Mr Akpanyung would come back to serve the nation on a higher level to enable the nation tap into his wealth of experience and knowledge.
The Minister congratulated him on attaining the age of retirement and appreciated the time, planning and effort he had invested in moving the Ministry forward, adding that he would be missed, especially at this time the Ministry is undergoing restructuring.
While describing the Permanent Secretary as professional, honest and loyal in the conduct of his duties, the Minister regretted that he was retiring when two of them were getting a proper grip on their respective tasks in the Ministry.
In response, the outgoing Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Bassey Okon Akpanyung, identified hard work and dedication to duty as the cornerstone to success and self-actualization.
He described civil servants as important assets to nation-building and tasked them to put in their best in ensuring the growth and development of the country.
The Permanent Secretary, who said he has had the best opportunities in his career, offered his services to the Ministry and the country in whatever capacity he is found worthy.
He thanked the Minister, management and staff of the Ministry for creating a harmonious environment for him to work.
