Be Principled in Your Handling of GBV Cases; Responders and Advocates Charged

FIC Report (Abia State) – Advocates and Responders for Gender Based Violence has being advised to ensure professionalism in handling cases of survivors by ensuring the use of incident handling forms, consent referral release forms and Referral forms.

This was the focal point at a Capacity Training Workshop Organized by the office of the Wife of the Governor, Dr. Nkechi Ikpeazu held at the Women Development Centre, Umuahia with the theme ” Strengthening Education Sector Response to Gender Based Violence”.

Mrs. Nnennaya Eneremadu, the facilitator who emphasized on the need to abide by survivor centered principles of Gender Based Violence which in all cases include safety and security, confidentiality, respect, informed consent, do not harm, information and non-discrimination and impartiality.

Advocates must ensure that issues are reported to LGA based GBV desk, who determines the next line of action.

Emphasis were also made on the use of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) law for enforcement of rights abuses.

The capacity building threw responders and advocates from the 17 Local Government Area of Abia State in collaboration with the office of the wife of the Governor..
