The Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), a German Foundation, has organized a two-day workshop for Heads of federal parastatals and Commissions, on organizational effectiveness and corporate governance.

The workshop, which will also help strengthen the capacity of board members of the parastatals and Commissions for improved performance, was held at Fraser Suites, in Abuja.

Dr. Vladimir Kreck, the Resident Representative of KAS in Nigeria, expressed confidence that the workshop will entrench good governance and effectiveness in Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

“It is against this backdrop, that our organization feels honored to be able to support the Presidency in its attempt to make continuously a meaningful impact in the functionality of government and to improve governance,” Dr. Kreck said.

In his keynote address, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Mr. Boss Mustapha, while decrying the poor and unhealthy relationships existing between Governing Boards of federal agencies, and their Chief Executive Officers, CEOs, said they have become worrisome and unacceptable to government.

“This could be avoided if Chairmen and Members of Governing Boards acquaint themselves with the instruments of establishment of their respective organisations, where the role and responsibilities of the Board are prescribed,” he added.

Mr. Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi, Director General of BPSR, while delivering his welcome address, said the workshop could not have come at better time, especially in view of concerns expressed about the weak corporate governance practice, struggle and misunderstanding among board members in some Federal parastatals, agencies and commissions.
