Buhari is aware of your predicament – Commissioner tells IDPs

President Muhammadu Buhari is concerned about the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and has assured that government would continue to provide succour for them.

The Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrant and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hon. Sadiya Umar Farouq stated this while distributing relief materials to IDPs Camps in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja on Saturday 10, 2018.

Hon. Sadiya and her team who were in three locations namely: Wassa, Durumi and Kuchingoro distributed relief material including food and non-food items, shelter, healthcare, Agricultural input and educational materials.

According to her, government would routinely provide the IDPs with relief materials while efforts are on to address protection challenges facing some sections of the Country.

The Commissioner commended the supportive roles of National and International partners, expressing optimism that government was on top of the situation with regards to the problems of insurgency.

Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Muhammed Bello, assured of his support for the welfare of IDPs Camped in the Territory.

The Minister was represented by Assistant Director (Relief and Rehabilitation), Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Vincent Chachafa.

Leader of the IDPs in Kuchingoro Camp Mr. Philemon Emmanuel commended Federal Government for the show of love and affection through the relief materials, but stressed the desire to the IDPs to return to their homes in the shortest possible time.

The IDPs numbering about 1,857 he said have stayed away from home for about four years due to the insurgency.

He urged government to continue to make efforts to resolved fully the issue of insurgency which made  them to flee from their homes, even as he said that government should also look in the  direction of IDPs for employment opportunities “ we have many graduates among us” he said.
