Commissioner Reiterates its Pledge to IDPs Resettlement Cities Project

The Honourable Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Senator Basheer Garba Mohammed, has restated the Commitment of the Federal Government to actualize its plan to build Resettlement Cities as a measure to reintegrate displaced persons into normal livelihood.

Addressing a team of officials from Leadership Newspaper, who paid him a courtesy visit, the Commissioner said that, plans are already at advanced stage for commencement of the project, adding that about one million IDPs will be resettled this year, in collaboration with relevant State Governments.

According to him, Borno State alone will have five of the Resettlement Cities, each comprising of 300 units of 2 bedrooms and 100 units of 1 bedroom, respectively. They are to be equipped with modern vocational training centres, schools and worship centers among other things.

Senator Basheer Mohammed highlighted the daunting task having to maintain over two million IDPs scattered across 1000 camps in the country, stating that by way of providing them with the durable solution, the Commission has commenced the training of the targeted 500,000 women in tailoring and other vocations.

The Commissioner who commended the management of Leadership Newspaper for its fair reportage of the Commission, stressed the need for collaboration among stakeholders that can lead to achieving results.

The Executive Director Operation, Mr. Rasheed Yusuf, who led the Leadership team said, the paper had monitored with great admiration, the efforts made by the Commissioner and his team in addressing the IDPs crisis, while assuring their continued partnership.
