Dambazau condemns divisive rhetoric by some Nigerians

The Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. (Rtd) Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, has condemned the avalanche of divisive rhetoric which is tearing apart the fabric of unity holding the nation together.

Gen. Dambazau stated this when he addressed the media on the current atmosphere of divisive rhetoric aimed at causing disaffection and disunity among Nigerians.

He called on Nigerians to desist from using the traditional and non-traditional media platforms to perpetrate the appalling messages aimed at creating a divisive atmosphere and bringing disunity among citizens.

He said the press briefing was to “consolidate on the efforts of the Acting President towards fostering peaceful co-existence, corporate cohesion, peace and stability within the federation.”

According to him, “As Minister of Interior, being responsible for public safety and security, I wish to reassure the public of government’s commitment to protect the lives and property, as well as to ensure the sanctity and integrity of the national space, to promote, safety and the wellbeing of all, as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Gen. Dambazau added that those found to be inciting public disobedience or preaching violence and hatred under any guise, would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

The Minister reiterated government’s resolve “to maintain peace, law and order, as well as to protect the right of all individuals and groups, wherever they may choose to reside and to fully exercise their rights and privileges in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and International Law.”
