Defence Ministry Upscales Standard in Schools –Perm. Sec. Defence

The Ministry of Defence has commenced the revitalization of schools for children and wards of the Officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces across the country.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Musa Istifanus stated this while declaring opened the Armed Forces Primary and Secondary Schools Committee Meeting held at the Ship House, Abuja.

Mr Istifanus remarked that “education is the most powerful weapon that can be used to change the world and it is an important sector in the development of any nation”.

He further stated that most governments around the world invest a significant amount of their resources in educating their citizens and workforce.

He appreciated the efforts of the teachers in their contributions to the development of the Armed Forces Education System, pointing out that the Ministry is trying its best to improve the welfare of teachers as they are the goose that lays the golden egg.

In her welcome address, Mrs Afolake Taiwo said that “the meeting was convened essentially to address the challenges confronting the education system in the Armed Forces primary and secondary schools on one hand and the challenges the zonal heads face while discharging their duties.

She stated that the meeting was to proffer solutions to the problems that would aid the better performance of teachers on the field to positively on the system to conform to global best practices.

Rear Admiral J.K. Luka, Director of Education, Defence Headquarters in his goodwill message said enhancing knowledge for better quality assurance and maintaining standardization and discipline in students of the Armed Forces schools is the key to success.
