Diabetes Mortality Rate Can Be Controlled Through Early Detection says ASPHCDA Executive Secretary

The Executive Secretary Abia State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ASPHCDA), Dr. Chinagozi Adindu has revealed that early detection is the best way of controlling the mortality rate of Diabetes.

He made this known during the flag off ceremony of the second phase of Diabetes Training, Counselling, Drug Support and Distribution of Palliative to the indigent people in Umuahia South LGA by the Obinwanne Support Initiative.

He said,”Cases of Diabetes are on the increase and that many people are now coming down with diabetes because of consumption of processed foods that contain very high percentage of sugar and that most people do not watch what they eat hence we have many cases of Diabetes”.

He opined that, “Because of this increase in the number of sufferers, it is important and sensitive to conduct Diabetes screening and give out medication to people so that the disease can be controlled at the primary level, as early detection is the best way of controlling the disease in the body”.

Dr. Adindu commended the founder of Obinwanne group, Honourable Barrister Randie Ukanwoke for organizing the program and for collaborating with Abia State Government.

He added that Abia State Government in a bid to play their own role of controlling the disease have been able to train Health Staff on the best way to prevent Diabetes which involve proper nutrition and the need to always counsel people on the right thing to do.

In his speech,the 2023 Gubernatorial candidate of People Democratic Party in Abia State, Professor Uche Ikonne while flagging off the second phase of Diabetes Training, Counselling, Drug support and Distribution of Palliative to Indigent People in Umuahia South by the Obinwanne Support Initiative commended the founder of the initiative Barrister Randie Ukanwoke for organizing the program.

According to him, “Health is one of the fundamental issues that must be addressed with utmost concern. He applauded the efforts of the incumbent administration on primary and secondary health care services, with a promise that his administration will prioritize health care services.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the Founder of Obinwanne Initiative, Barr. Randie Ukawoko said that the program is in fulfillment of his promise to contribute in the local and global efforts to fight the disease of Diabetes which has become a huge silent killer among indigent rural dwellers.

He further thanked Professor Ikonne for his support to Obinwanne group and also for honouring his invitation.

The ceremony attracted the presence of many Dignitaries including the Deputy Gubernatorial Candidate of the PDP Barr. Okey Igwe, the DG and Members of Uche Ndi Abia Campaign Organisation, Chief Tony Uk among others.
