Edo NAWOJ emphasizes the importance of Proper Breastfeeding.

FIC Report (Edo State) – The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Edo State Chapter has charged women, especially  nursing mothers to ensure that their babies are properly  breastfed  because of the inherent benefits of breastmilk.

The Edo State NAWOJ Chairperson Comrade Adesuwa Ehimuan gave the charge in Benin City, Edo State capital during the commemoration of breastfeeding week celebrated  first week of August every year with the theme “Support breastfeeding for a healthier planet”.
Comrade Ehimuan noted that in order to have healthy and strong babies, nursing mothers must be encouraged to breastfeed their babies exclusively for the first six months all things being equal.
She revealed that the Association is passionate about women bringing forth healthy babies and nursing them through a healthy lifestyle,saying that mothers should adhere to the health sector rules on breastfeeding and also called on fathers to support and encourage their wives to raise lively sons and daughters for a healthier planet.
According to her the fathers should be very supportive to their wives during the period of breastfeeding and make the period stress free by ensuring that their wives feed on balanced diet,  adequate for her and her child
Mothers were urged to continue nursing  children by eating healthy and balanced diet so that their babies can enjoy a healthy and nutritious breastmilk. Reports have it that the immune system of  children that are well breastfed are always strong to fight different kinds of diseases.
Edo State NAWOJ  charged  mothers never to  relent in ensuring that their children are well fed with breast milk, adding that a safe and healthy society begins with a well fed infants who grows up to become adults with a healthy mind making the planet a better place.
