Edo State Govt stocks Food Bank for 2nd phase distribution of palliatives

FIC Report (Edo State) – The Dangote Foundation, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) and Morzi Hotel have donated relief materials to support efforts by the Edo State Government to cushion the effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on vulnerable persons in the state.

While the Dangote Foundation donated 135 cartons of spaghetti and 135 cartons of Macaroni Cavatto; BEDC donated 1,500 bags of 5kg rice and 1,000 cartons of Indomie noodles; while Morzi Hotel donated 500 bags of 10kg rice.

Receiving the donation from Morzi Hotel, the state’s Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, said: “You are the first hotel that is supporting our government at this trying time; this is encouraging. We assure you that the items will get to the vulnerable persons who can’t afford it”.

Rt. Hon. Com. Shuaibu added that the Edo state Government has distributed food items as palliatives to people to cushion  the effect of the stay – at home order.

“We have started the first phase of the distribution and donations like this will fall into the second batch distribution, which will commence soon. We solicit for more of these gestures as we call on public-spirited Nigerians to support the government to fight against the unseen enemy”. He concluded.

Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Special Duties, Hon. Yakubu Gowon, who monitored the offloading of the items at the Edo State Food Bank in Benin City, commended the donors for their support.

He reassured that the items will get to those who are in dire need, noting that the delivery will be part of the second phase of the distribution.

While presenting their donations, the representative of Morzi Hotel, Ojei Igbafen said the management deemed it fit to support the state government in cushioning the effect of COVID-19 in the state.
