Efficient service delivery key to improved productivity

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Defence, Ambassador Danjuma Sheni has identified efficient service delivery and the reward system for workers who have distinguished themselves in the discharge of their duties as the key to improved productivity in Nigeria.

The PS who made this known recently in Abuja on the occasion of the best Staff Award and the launching of the Service Charter by Ministry of Defence, said the conferment of the award is to showcase to all workers that hard work pays and implored Service Providers to reward deserving Staff as this will spur others to improve their performance and boost morale.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the Service Charter of the Ministry of Defence “is crafted to inform its customers, the people and our partners to know the business we provide, how it’s delivered and what are the expected outcome from such interaction. It is about our communication and strategy in dealing with our customers”

In his goodwill message, the Acting Director General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, (BPSR), Mr. D.I Arabi said that the occasion is apt and commendable as the Nigerian Public Service continues to strive to reinvent itself to deliver quality services to the Citizenry, adding that the Charter is the agreement that spurs Public Servants to do their best and invariably achieve the mandates of the MDAs.

The Ag.DG further disclosed that in the spirit of enhancing service delivery, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, charged Civil Servants to ensure that they distinguish themselves in the discharge of their duties in order to chart a new course that would be efficient, productive, incorruptible and citizen-centred.

Mr. Arabi gave the assurance that the updated National Strategy on Public Service Reforms (NSPSR) will meet the needs of the citizens through prompt and efficient service delivery, professionalism, and excellence such that by 2025 world-class Public Service can be achieve.

While pledging that the Bureau will continue to identify and partner with laudable efforts that will enhance effective and efficient service delivery, the Ag. DG advised other officers not to envy those that have been honoured but to emulate the virtues of commitment and dedication to duties so that more of them will be honoured in the next edition.

Also speaking, the National Coordinator, Service Compact, (SERVICOM), Mrs. Nnenna Akajemeli noted that the launch of the Servicom Charter is an attestation and demonstration of commitment of the Ministry to manage the performance and expectation gap between the government and the citizens on issues of service delivery

The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of the Best Staff Award by the Permanent Secretary to three recipients: Mr A. Nwaegbe, a Deputy Director, Mr. Essa Emmanuel, Education officer 1, and Mrs Onoba Mabel, a clerical officer.
