….Urges Both Incoming and Outing Administration In Abia To Maintain Peace

FIC Report (Abia State) – Following the reports of alleged exclusion of Nigerians of Igbo extraction from the ongoing evacuation exercise in war-torn Sudan, the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Chapter, has called on the President Mohammadu Buhari led Federal Government to redress the situation immediately.

The call is coming on the heels of a viral video circulated on social media where some Igbo indigenes narrated how they were asked to alight from the buses for Nigerians of other extraction to enter for evacuation.

In a communique issued at the end of her monthly Congress in Umuahia, Abia State capital, the NUJ further called on the Federal Government to double its efforts in evacuating all Nigerian Citizens stranded in war-torn Sudan and bring them back safely to the Country.

The communique signed by the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Victor Ndukwe and Secretary,  Comrade Adaeze Ralph Igbokwe, also urged the federal government to urgently investigate allegations of exclusion of Nigerians of Igbo extraction from the ongoing evacuation exercise to ascertain the veracity of such claims.

The Union however thanked the Federal Government for heeding to its call of taking steps to cushion the adverse effects of the Naira redesign policy which occasioned scarcity of cash in circulation and its attendant hardship on the citizenry, by prevailing on the Central Bank of Nigeria to release more cash into the system.

It further appealed to the federal government to tackle factors militating against virile electronic banking system in the country, particularly poor network by telecom service providers.

Part of the Communique reads thus;
“Congress urges both the outgoing and incoming administration in the State and all political actors to desist from statements, actions and in-actions capable of truncating the relative peace being enjoyed in the State.

“Congress commends the out-going Governor, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu (Ph.D), for piloting the affairs of the State in the last eight years.

Congress notes the successes his administration recorded in terms of policy and projects implementation but observes with reservations, the low point of the administration with regard to general improvement of welfare of the people, particularly with reference to payment of salaries to workers; and pension and gratuities to retirees.

“Congress also appeals to the out-going Government to ensure that Civil Servants in the State are paid their salaries, including their outstanding March and April 2023 salaries and other allowances, before it hands over to the incoming administration.

“Congress Congratulates the Governor-elect, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, OFR , on his landslide victory at the March 18, 2023 Governorship election in the State.Congress assures the incoming administration of the readiness of the Union and her members to partner with it and urges it to carry the Press along.
