Evolve better ways of tax collection in the Country, Ahmed Idris tasks CITN.

The Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris has urged the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria( CITN) to come up with more scientifc ways and means of  improving the collection of taxes in the country to enable government to increase its revenue base.

Mr. Idris made this call today at the Treasury House Abuja, while recieving in audience the President and  Council members of the Chartered Institute of  Taxation of Nigeria  led by the President himself Chief Dr. Ikemefuna Edeh.

“Given your vast exprience in the area of taxation, and the current efforts of the present administration to sure-up the revenue of government from non-oil  and mineral sources, it is important for you to bring to bear your experiences in harnessing the huge potential in the area of taxation to improve on the economy”  maintained the Accountant-General of the Federation.

The AGF also called for a closer collaboration between the Treasury and CITN in order to  improve on successes already achieved in the current public finance management, such as Treasury Single Account, GIFMIS, IPSAS, IPPIS etc  being implemented by the Office, saying that his  office will support professional bodies with ideas on how to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the reforms. He pledged on the continued support of the Treasury to the activities of the institute.

Earlier the President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation in Nigeria, Dr. Ikemefuna Edeh extolled what he called the “sterling and examplary leadership of the Accountant-General of the Federation Mr. Ahmed Idris which has led to “ a more transparent and professional management of  the nation’s Treasury with integrity .

Dr. Edeh assured of the commitment of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria in helping the Treasury achieve its mandate.
