ABUJA – (Code of Conduct Tribunal Report) – The Code of Conduct Tribunal has said that it could not proceed with the day to day trial of the false asset declaration case against the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen (Justice) on account of ill-health.

According to the report from the Publicity Unit of CCT, CJ Onnoghen’s absence in court has stalled the commencement of the substantive matter on day – to – day proceedings as ruled yesterday by the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar (Justice).

The report further indicated that the Lead Counsel of the suspended CJN, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) told the Court that his client developed a toothache and high blood pressure measuring 210/121 which needed an urgent treatment.

“The Prosecuting Counsel, Aliyu Umar (SAN) acknowledged the sighting of the medical report obtained from a private hospital as presented by the Defence Counsel to justify his absence,” the report stated.

“He said that he reserved his comment on the veracity of the document in view of the situation at hand and urged the Court to relax it’s earlier ruling to allow the suspended CJN to have his treatment and equally have a bed rest for 72 hours as recommended by the Doctor in the medical report.”

Aliyu Umar ( Justice) therefore requested for adjournment till Monday 18th of March, 2019 for continuation of the substantive matter which the three-man panel chaired by him granted.
