OWERRI – (Power, Works & Housing Ministry Report) – The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has urged the members of the top management team and Heads of Parastatals under the Ministry to view service as a matter of propriety and national conscience for the nation to truly experience good governance and national prosperity.

The Minister stated this in a keynote address delivered at the 6th edition of the Top Management Retreat for Directors, Chief Executives of Parastatals and Agencies as well as Heads of Units of the Ministry holding at the Imo Concorde Hotel in Owerri, Imo State.

He thanked the members of the top management team and other staff of the Ministry for their commitment to the successes recorded during the 2018 yuletide season. He identified the activities to include: the provision of adequate palliative measures for the road and power sectors which aimed at curtailing power outages and bad road conditions occasioned by excessive rainfall and flooding leading to road washouts; noting the numerous potholes, damaged transformers and felling of electric poles and power lines were tackled.

Fashola disclosed that their commitment to “safe passage” for road users and increased, stable electric power supply contributed to easing the pains and difficulties experienced by consumers after the rainy season, especially during the festive season. He encouraged them to do more, in order to enhance good governance and quality service delivery to the people which will culminate in a prosperous Nigeria.

The Minister further stated that Nigerians want energy, motorable roads and affordable houses across the nation, saying the Ministry is privileged to provide these essential services. He urged members of the top management team to be proactive and ready to work harder as the rainny season sets in.

The Power, Works & Housing Boss expressed gratitude to President Mohammed Buhari for his gracious approval of the National Infrastructure Maintenance Programme for all public buildings in the country. He added that this will open up windows of employment and job creation for teeming youths and artisans such as carpenters, electricians and welders, among others.

The two – day retreat with the theme: “Re-Inventing Governance for National Prosperity” which held from March 22 – 23, 2019 witnessed four paper presentations on topical issues such as “Re-Inventing Governance for Sustained, Prosperous Nation”; “Enhancing Capacity Building Process in the Nigerian Power Sector for National Prosperity”; “Re-Inventing Governance for National Prosperity and Corruption: The Bane of Good Governance.”

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita was one of the dignitaries present at the occasion and she gave a presentation titled: “Re-Inventing Governance for National Prosperity.” Also present at retreat were the Permanent Secretary for Works and Housing – Bukar Mohammed and the Permanent Secretary for Power – Lius Edochie (Engr), who delivered the welcome address at the event.
