FCT Minister Promises Support for National Refugees Commission

ABUJA (Presidency Report) Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Muhammed Bello has promised to support the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) in achieving its set objectives.

The Minister gave the assurance when the Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Hon. Sadiya Umar Farouq paid him a courtesy call in his office on Tuesday, July, 2017.

Mallam Bello specifically assured that the Commission could avail itself of the vocational skills facilities owned by the FCT authorises to train the Internally Displaced Persons under the durable solution efforts of the Commission.

The Minister also assured that within the Master Plan of the Federal Capital Territory, the Commission would be allocated an appropriate piece of Land for building befitting facility for Displaced Persons.

To this end, the Minister advised the Commissioner to liaise with social Service Secretariat of the FCT for further discussion on all that is required.

The Minister expressed concern about the plight of the IDPs, particularly, women and children, noting that education of the IDPs children could be jeopardized.

According to him, the IDPs Camps in the Territory was conceived as a very Temporary measure which is why the structures there are not so befitting.

Mallam Bello commended the Hon. sadiya for her remarkable achievements since she was appointed, even as he attested to her track record as a hardworking and committed person who would stop at nothing in achieving set objective

Earlier, the Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Hon. Sadiya Umar Farouq briefed the Minister on the mandate of the Commission and how it has fared so far.

She acknowledged the efforts and commitments of the FCT Minister to the welfare of IDPs Camped in the City, citing the provision of accommodation at Durumi for Persons Displaced from North eastern Nigeria.

Hon. Sadiya had requested the Minster for greater synergy and collaboration on empowering IDPs, Returnees and asylum seekers within the Territory. Specifically, the Commissioner enjoined the Minister to facilitate the allocation of Land to enable the Commission build its Permanent residence for the Persons of concern.
