Federal Government Assures Fairness And Transparency In Disposal Of Forfeited Assets

The Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice Dayo Apata, SAN has assured the Committee’s measures to ensure transparent process in every asset to be disposed off by the Federal Government.

Apata gave the assurance at the ceremonial Aspect of Opening of the Technical Bid for the Procurement of Estate Surveyors and Valuers on Asset forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria, in Abuja on Tuesday March 2nd, 2021.

He disclosed that a total of 398 Requests for Procurement (RFP) were received while 355 submissions were received and six were rejected.

He explained that upon the inauguration of the committee, what they have decided to do is to have two stages, the valuation stage, which is the process whereby all assets have to be valued to reflect the marketing value, so that at the end of the day the government will sell or dispose all the assets, within the frame work of the value that can be ascribed to them.

He further explained that, the committee in its first stage had experts in the field who would consider valuing the assets in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to ensure value for money, transparency and accountability in accordance with the Public Procurement Act.

“After this stage, they will go for auctioning, and there will be proposal for auctioneers who are expert and that will be considered to auction well”.

Apata, who is also Chairman of the Inter- Ministerial committee pointed that, efforts towards forfeited items are still on-going. He explained that there are some that are in the court while some are in the interim arrangement, adding that the concern is on those that have already been finally forfeited to the federal government.

The Chairman, Sub Committee on Valuation and Due Process, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing Emesue Godwin assured that the committee would be fair and just in handling the assignment disclosing that the submission and recording has ended.

Emesue said, the bids lots would be open one after the other, for the firms that participated while the analysis will be done later by the subcommittee.

The Committee members were drawn from the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Police Force, Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA) among others
