The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, has commended the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Ahmed Idris for the proactive initiatives taken to rehabilitate the Federal Treasury Academy (FTA), Orozo, FCT, for better productivity and to meet its mandate.

The Head of Service gave the commendation on Tuesday, 17th  April 2018, after a tour of facilities in the academy, which include  Hostel , Computer /e-library, main library,  clinic, classrooms,  amongst others.

Mrs Oyo-Ita expressed satisfaction on the level of renovation of the facilities, noting that with the development, the academy has been repositioned to give the necessary manpower training to accountants and other treasury officers in the Civil Service.

The Head of Service noted that the renovation and facility upliftment of the academy will not only enhance capacity building of the treasury staff in the civil service but would also generate revenue for government. Further the facilities would be made available for use to other government agencies and the private sector.

She also noted that the fact that AGF was able to attract much support from inter-agency and private sector in the upliftment of the facilities is an indication of trust the people have for President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration transparency and accountability agenda.

In his remarks, the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris, said that the FTA started way back in Lagos in 1973 as Treasury training arm, and that treasury officers at the three levels of government have benefited from its service. However, he said paucity of fund has resulted dilapidation of facilities and downward trend in its service delivery.

He said the effort to rehabilitate facilities in the academy is born of ‘thinking out of the box’ in doing government business, hence seeking support of inter-agencies and the private sector.

Mr. Idris thanked the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, for the visit, saying that it was first of its kind in the history of the academy.

He implored her to direct the MDAs to patronize the academy facilities which will be given at a subsidized rate.
