FG Commissions Erosion and Flood Control Works at Agenedode and Fugar

The Federal Government of Nigeria has recently commissioned and handed over two completed Erosion sites executed through the Ecological Fund Office, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to the Edo Government for the benefit of Agenebode and Fugar communities of Etsako Central and East Local Government areas respectively.

The two projects were officially commissioned on behalf of the Federal Government by the Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Ecology and Climate change, Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu.

In his keynote address, Uwajumogu appreciated the quick intervention of the Ecological Fund Office on the Erosion sites which he said would have cut off the access roads leading to many communities. He reiterated President Muhamadu Buhari’s promise that no part of the country would be neglected owing to its geographical location or political consideration. He also assured the audience that the present administration was committed to entrenching Justice, Equity and Fair play to all and sundry.

Earlier in her speech, the Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, Dr. Habiba Lawal who was represented at the occasion by the Director, Soil Erosion and Flood control, Engr. Felix Okeke enjoined the good people of Agenebode and Fugar to ensure maintenance and sustainability of the projects insisting that the resources the Federal Government has committed to the project must not be allowed to waste.

The Commissioner for Environment, Dame Omoua Alonge Oni-Okpaku who represented the Edo State Government, appreciated the good work done by the Federal Government in Edo State. She thanked Mr President, the Ecological Fund Office the Contractors and Consultants of the projects for job well done.

The communities were not left out. The trooped out in their numbers in support of APC-led administration. Some of them interviewed testified to the deplorable condition of the roads before the contractors were mobilized to sites. They were happy that the Federal Government helped rescue their houses from imminent flood this year and made their roads passable. They promised to cherish the projects.

It would be recalled that prior to the ceremony, the special Guest of Honour for the occasion, Sen. Benjamin Uwajumogu and his entourage, the Edo State Government representative, the Ecological Fund Office team with the Press paid a courtesy visit to the Okumagbe of Uwanno Kingdom, Agenebode, HRH G.O Eghabo.

Present at the occasion were the officials of the Etsako Central and Etsako East Local Government areas, the local Government counsellors and the Press crew.
