The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to the safety and welfare of workers in the Federal Public Service.

The Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, made this known at the Stakeholder’s Validation Meeting, on the Framework for the Implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Policy in the Federal Public Service held in Abuja recently.

Mrs. Walson-Jack said the framework is in line with the reforms in the Civil Service through the instrumentality of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP) 2017-2020.

She added that the well-being of Civil Servants is crucial to the repositioning of the service to be Efficient, Productive, Incorruptible and Citizen-Centered.

Speaking further, the Permanent Secretary said the draft framework for the implementation of the OSH Policy in the Public Service is a comprehensive document that outlines the responsibilities of Government, employees and other stakeholders to ensure work place safety.

Other issues addressed in the framework include; capacity building, OSH advocacy and awareness amongst public servants.

The Permanent Secretary said the Validation meeting will provide good platform for Stakeholders to commence the process of synergy for the improvement of workplace environment in the Public Service.

The Secretary of the Committee, Mr. Pilla, said the policy document has been forwarded to various Stakeholders for their input. He also said improvement of welfare and benefit packages for civil servants is of utmost priority and occupies a place of priority in the government plan.
