FG confirms 10 new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria

The Federal Government has confirmed ten (10) new cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nigeria, three new cases in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja while Seven (7) new cases are in Lagos State bringing the total number to twenty two (22).
 
Dr. Ehanire disclosed that the confirmed new cases are Nigeria Nationals, nine of them have travel history with Canada, France, Netherlands, Spain and United Kingdom. He said, they had being in the Country in the last one week while the 10th case is a close contact of the previously confirmed case.
 
The Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire stated this, weekend when the new cases were confirmed recently in Abuja. He hinted that the three cases in FCT are currently undergoing treatment at the University Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada while the seven new cases in Lagos are being treated at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba.
 
The Minister further stated that as at 21th March 2020, 22 cases had been confirmed, 2 cases had also been discharged and there has been no death so far from Covid-19 in Nigeria. He assured Nigerians that the Federal Government of Nigerians working assiduously with the State government to provide optimal care for all confirmed Covid-19 cases in the Country
 
He maintained that contact tracing is still ongoing to identify all person who have been in contact with the new confirmed cases while Port Health Services of the Federal Ministry of Health has scaled up screening at all air, land and sea points of entry into Nigeria.
 
He informed that the National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) led by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and supported by partners will continue to coordinate response activities and strengthen preparedness capacity across states nationwide, while the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Health is working closely with state government and the  Presidential Task Force on the control of Covid-19 and will continue to review and institute measures to protect the health of  Nigerians.
 
The Minister  emphasized the importance of Nigerians to strictly adhere to social distancing and other necessary  precautions  put in place and also stated that the Federal Ministry  of  Health through  the Nigeria Center for Disease  Control , will maintain a real time update on new cases through the website:covid19.ncdc.gov.ng.
