FG Flags off Flood and Erosion control project in Gafasa, Kano State

The Federal Government has flagged off Flood and erosion control project in Gafasa community of Ajingi Local Government in Kano State.  The project will include embarkment and construction of six channels which will serve farmers of the community with adequate water geared towards enhancing irrigation farming in the community.

Speaking at the ceremony to flag off the project, the Permanent Secretary of Ecological Project Office, Dr. Habiba Lawal, represented by the Director of Press & Public Relation, Dr. Joel O. Oruche, called for peace and cooperation with the Contractors to ensure quality job and timely delivery of the project within the scheduled period of six (6) months.

Dr. Lawal stated that the Project Site handing over, sensitization and awareness creation event was to flag off the project approved by Mr. President and sensitize the community to cooperate and support the Contractor.  He pointed out that the sensitization was aimed at building bridges of understanding between EPO, Contractors and Host community with a view to resolving issues that may hinder the progress of work.

She advised the host community of the need to shun rancor, violence and conspiracy, extortion and conspiracy against contractors and by extension the Federal Government as no project would be executed in any community that is notorious for harassing contractors.  She therefore urged the host community to protect and sustain the project so that the resources which the federal Government has committed would be gainfully utilized and will not be in vain.

Dr Lawal assured the community that the Contractor would engage some of her youths in the execution of the project.

The Chairman of Ajingi Local Government Area, Alhaji Murtala Uba Danabiye represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Sa’ad Jibrin Toranke commended the Federal Government for coming to their rescue in addressing the ecological challenges that bedeviled the community.  Alhaji Toranke assured that the community will cooperate and give maximum support needed by the Contractor for the project.

The Contractor of the Project, Xenon Nigeria Limited represented by Engr. Samuel Adeyinka promised to complete the project within the specified period of six months with the required specification and good quality material.

The event featured signing of project documents by all stakeholders and handing over of same site to the Contractor.

The event was well attended by the people of Gafasa community, Stakeholders, Senior Officers from EPO, Contractors, Consultants and the Press.
