ABUJA (Min of Labour and Employment) – The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has said that development and survival of all ethnic nationalities are of paramount importance to the Federal Government.

He said this when he received the ‘Emete Urhobo’ (women wing of Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU)), led by its President, Onajite Efedede, on a courtesy visit recently.

He assured them that the Federal Government has a lot of programmes lined up for the Niger Delta Region, especially in the area of job creation and skill acquisition. He therefore enjoined the people to align themselves to the government at the centre and desist from ethnic politics.

Keyamo added that the Federal Government would revive moribund Skills Acquisition Centers, as well as build new ones in the days ahead to create employment for the people in the region.

The Minister pledged government’s support to the group, and disclosed President Buhari’s interest in women empowerment given his directives that women be adequately empowered.

While speaking earlier, the leader of the group, Onajite Efedede, sought Federal Government’s intervention in the plight of women and the girl-child in the Urhobo nationality, through job creation and provision of skill acquisition

She congratulated the State Minister on his appointment as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, noting that he had made the Urhobo nationality proud.

According to Efedede, the Emete Urhobo was created to be a voice for the rural women, orphans and the less privileged of Urhobo descent.
