FG Prioritizes Healthcare Development In The Niger Delta Region

The Federal government has assured the people of the Niger Delta Region, of Government’s intention to prioritize Healthcare within the region and ensure that the people enjoy basic healthcare provisions.

The Honourable Minister of State, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs (MNDA), Sen. Omotayo Alasoadura said this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodinma represented by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Placid Njoku, at the Government House in Owerri, Imo State, on Tuesday, March 17th, 2020.

Sen. Alasoadura explained that the purpose of the visit was to provide Medical outreach and Enlightenment Campaign for Women and Youths on HIV/AIDS for the people of Mmabu, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.

Addressing the beneficiaries at the medical outreach, the Minister said, the Enlightenment programme organised by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs (MNDA), in collaboration with the Health Mission, was specifically to address basic health issues of the rural Communities.

Speaking Further, Alasoadura informed the people that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration was concerned about the welfare of the people of the region and would ensure that the basic health provision is all inclusive in the Niger Delta Developmental Plan.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Mr Olusade Adesola who was represented by the Director, Community Development and Education (CDE), Mrs. Lauren Briade, , noted that the health intervention plan was in line with the Federal Government Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the World Health organization (WHO) recommendations for member Nations, to Commemorate Worlds AIDS Day, on the 1st of December, World Malaria Day on the 25th of April and World Cancer Day on the 4th of February, every year.

Mr. Adesola noted that the Ministry’s Medical Outreach Programme is designed with the objectives of bringing health care services to the door steps of the people, providing free consultations, drugs/medications and referrals when necessary, also to provide professional advice and information on prevention and treatable measures to the people.

In his remarks the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prof. Placid Njoku, expressed his gratitude to Mr. President for his great concern to the people of the region and thanked the Ministry for organizing such an enlightenment programme for the benefit of the community.

Earlier at the Royal Majesty’s Palace, Eze Augustine Iwuogu, Ezioma 1 of Mmahu Autonomous community, pleaded with the Ministry to consider activating the Gas turbine that was brought to the community in 2006, but was later abandoned and also emphasized on providing employment for the people of the community.
