FG Signs MOU With Huawei On ICT For Change Training Programme

The Federal Government has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Ltd for the third phase of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) for Change programme to provide capacity building for Nigerian youths and Federal Civil Servants.

While signing the Memorandum of Understanding with the company, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, congratulated the management of Huawei Technologies and Federal Government for the successful implementation of the first and second phases of the programme; which according to him had trained about 2, 000 Nigerian youths and 1,000 Federal Civil Servants across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

SGF stated that the role of technology in the ongoing transformation in the Nigerian Civil Service cannot be overemphasized. He added that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) has shown commitment on ICT through the establishment of the Enterprise Content Management (ECM); which is one of the 8 thematic areas of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan aimed at digitizing records and automate workflow processes in the MDA.
He further said that the current ICT for Change programme would go beyond the basic ICT knowledge to ICT Development Trends; E-Government for the Future; 5G Motivation and Industry Progress; Cyber Security among others. According to him, the ICT for Change programme seeks to train and empower 1,000 Federal Civil Servants across MDAs.
In her good will message the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Common Services Office in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Yusuf Ibrahim Idris, thanked the Huawei Technologies Nigeria Ltd for providing capacity development on ICT for Federal Civil Servants across the MDAs.
HCSF added that capacity building of Federal Civil Servants is part of the Federal Civil Service Strategic and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP) and assured the company that her office would give them the necessary support toward advancing ICT development among Civil Servants.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman/ Managing Director, Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Limited, Mr.Trevor Liu said that the company has so far trained 1,000 Federal Civil Servants on ICT- based knowledge and also reiterated its commitment to provide more capacity development to Federal Civil Service across MDAs to equip them with requisite ICT skills for effective service delivery.
In his words:

“Huawei’s “ICT FOR CHANGE” initiative is targeted at empowering Civil Servants with Fundamental ICT knowledge and skills. This immerse training will equip them with the rapid advancement of ICT technology and the increase demand for digital transformation, e-government and smart city capabilities, will significantly improve the efficiency in public service and benefit to digital economic development. Our target is to provide free ICT knowledge training to 1,000 Civil Servants”.
