FG Urges Women To Key Into Government’s Policies And Programmes

The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Amb. Mariam Yalwaji Katagum has urged the Nigerian women in both rural and urban areas to leverage on various policies and programmes of government for economic advancement.

The Minister stated this when she received a delegation of executive members of Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ) led by the Chairperson, Executive Council,Ngover Ihyembe Nwankwo in Abuja recently.

She explained that through various policies like Trade Policy, Investment policy, Tomato policy implementation among others, Nigerian women could leverage on these and promote their businesses.

She stated that the Ministry  in its regulatory functions would continue to initiate policies and programmes that will enhance the participation of women in Nigerian economy.

Earlier in her address, the Chairperson Executive Council of Women in Management, Business and Pubic Service (WIMBIZ)  and leader of the delegation, Mrs. Ngover Ihyembe- Nwankwo said the association was committed in ensuring women participate and attain higher positions in their various fields.

She stressed that the association had organized series of programmes and activities to build capacities of women in their various fields.

 While commending the Minister of State for being a role model to other women, she said the purpose of their visit was to seek for collaboration with the Ministry in area of women empowerment.


The Assistant Director, Gender in the Ministry, Mrs. Hajara Usman applauded the women’s activities and stated that it is a laudable effort towards promoting women participation in the economy and she promised to reach and contact the association on any empowerment programmes of the Ministry.
