Speaking to Journalists on her reason to celebrate with the IDPs, the Honourable Minister explained that it was to fulfill a promise she made to the residents during her visit to the camps last Christmas and a way of giving back to those in need.
Dame Pauline Tallen, informed that in order to carry this gesture further, she would be working closely with other sister Ministries like, FCT, Environment and Education in order to continue to give them a sense of belonging, as Nigerians. She further explained that if the teaming population of children at the camps, particularly, the girl child is given basic educated, issues of early or child marriage and other social vices would be reduced in the society.
She called on all well-meaning Nigerians to always go out of their ways to remember to give back to the poor and the less privileged in the society.
Also on hand to celebrate with the Minister was the United Nations Women Nigeria Country representative, Mrs Comfort Lamptey, who stated that the year 2020 is a very significant year for women, because priority areas would be highlighted.
She added that it is a year for Women to reflect on how far “we have come in the last 25 years of existence as an organisation. Unless we invest and empower women, Nigeria would not take its rightful place in so many areas. There are several women groups all over the country, we intend to bring together the entire women network and redirect our energy for better outcomes” she stressed.
