The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Mr. Clement Uwaifo has decried the poor attitude towards implementation of NCH resolutions by some State Health institutions. The Permanent Secretary made this observation while kick starting the Technical session of the 60thNational Council on Health, “Theme: Economic Recovery and Growth Plan(ERGP) in the health sector: Matters Arising” currently holding in Kuto, Abeokuta, 6th – 7th, November, 2017.
Addressing the delegates at the meeting, Mr. Uwaifo noted that if resolutions of the Council were not fully implemented and health indices of every state not promptly reported to the secretariat, the health status of the affected states could not be improved.
He therefore advised the State Health Ministries to interface with Governors forum so as to further a better cooperation and synergy towards the implementation of Council Resolutions.
The Permanent Secretary also recommended that rewards be given to states who consistently sent in reports on their health indices. This, he said could encourage other states to work harder.
Speaking earlier in his welcome address at the occasion, the Ogun State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye said that the state government was delighted to host the meeting because the event would galvanize a healthy Ogun population to enhance its economic development and growth.
Describing Ogun State as the emerging Economic capital of Nigeria, Dr. Ipaye informed that health was the second point of the Economic recovery agenda in Ogun State. He also expressed his state government’s appreciation for granting the state the opportunity to share ideas and learn from other stakeholders in the health sector.
Presentations at the first and second Technical sessions were made on a range of topics as follows:
Economic Recovery and Growth Plan and the Health Sector; Matters Arising by Professor Olu Ajakaye; Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan: Strengthening Primary Health Care by Mrs. Chidi Ikechukwu; Strengthening Health Sector Institutions by WHO Country Representative; Developing a strong Organizational Culture for Institutional Growth of the FMOH by Dr, Tolu Fakaye; Partnership Engagement Strategies by the Chairman of Development Partners Group; Revamping the National Agency for Cancer by Professor Durosinmi Etti; and Intra and Inter-Sectoral Coordination Strategies towards Better Health by Professor Nasir Sambo.
