The House of Representatives at its plenary today Thursday February 13, 2020 declared State of Emergency on Power Sector in the Country.

Hon. Nnolim Nnaji from Enugu who moved the motion said the challenges in power sector are linked to most problems in Nigeria such as unemployment, economy instability and others and if the power generation can increase up to 20,000MW, it will go a long way to address the problem in the sector.

The House noted that the Federal Government launched the privatization programme in 2013 to unbundle the power sector but it has not yielded any positive result.

During the debate, lawmakers accused the Electricity Distribution Companies of not performing well and call for a review of the Power Sector Privatization Project.

The Motion called for holistic approach to tackle the challenges in power sector which is quite unfortunate.

The House therefore, called for a review of the power sector in Nigeria.
