Ikpeazu Commends NDLEA’s Efforts To End Drug Abuse

FIC Report (Abia State) – The Wife of Abia Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, has commended the Officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for their efforts towards reducing the prevalence of drug abuse and rehabilitation of those already addicted in the country.

Mrs. Ikpeazu, made the commendation during a facility tour of the state Headquarters of NDLEA in Aba.
Advising those in the facility for rehabilitation , the Governor’s Wife said that drug addiction is bad and affect every part of human body negatively.

She explained that the influence of drug addiction can lead to violence, madness, rustication from school thereby jeopardising the future and in some cases sudden death.

However, the Abia First Lady called on Leaders, NGOs, Religious Bodies etc to join government in the campaign to end drug abuse in the country.

She also encouraged persons on rehabilitation process not to revert to drugs again.

In his remarks, the State Acting Commandant of NDLEA , Mr MacLean Ebani thanked the Governors Wife for her visit to the facility to encourage the clients.

Ebani stated that the Abia First Lady through her Vicar Hope Foundation has been of immense support to NDLEA in their fight to eradicate substance abuse in the state.

Earlier, one of the clients and a graduate of the Federal University of Technology , Owerri, Mr. Okonkwo Chukwuemeka who is on rehab states that they did not chose to become addicts but depression gradually gravitate them to substance abuse as elixir without consideration to its consequences.

Okonkwo expressed gratitude to the Governor’s Wife for the love demonstrated towards them and Officers of NDLEA and appealed for assistance in the area of skills acquisition so that they would have something to fall back on when they leave the Rehabilitation Centre.
