Ikpeazu distributes 40 mobility carts to the Physically challenged in Abia

FIC Report (Abia State) – Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has distributed 40 mobility carts to physically challenged persons in Abia Central Senatorial Zone of State comprising Osisioma Ngwa, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, Umuahia North, Umuahia South and Ikwuano under the Abia State Free Medical Mission 2020.

Speaking during the Abia State Free Medical Mission 2020 for the Abia Central zone held at Primary Health Centre, Nkwoegwu, Ohuhu in Umuahia North LGA, the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu noted that the Free Medical Mission was embarked upon as part of efforts geared towards improving the healthcare needs of the physically challenged persons in the rural areas.

Governor Ikpeazu said distribution of the devices is the best way to return thanks to God after the Supreme Court judgement and to fulfill his electoral promises to them and described them as persons with special abilities. He encouraged them not to allow anyone look down on them because of their condition.

He said he feels sad seeing them crawling hence, the decision to distribute the devices because their lives could take a turn for the better. He disclosed that his government is working on getting motorized machines for the physically challenged persons who would want to drive such devices.

Speaking on behalf of the Transition Committee Chairmen in the Abia Central Zone, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ikwuano LGA, Deacon Stanley Ojigbo commended Governor Ikpeazu for distributing the mobility carts to the physically challenged individuals in the zone and assured the Governor of continuous support of the people in the six Local Government Areas of the Abia Central.

In his speech, the Personal Physician to the Governor and Convener of Abia State Free Medical Mission 2020, Dr Enyinnaya stated that the Free Medical Mission was done in partnership with Med-Share, an American donor Agency in collaboration with Abia State Indigines the Diaspora and said the programme was organised to distribute mobility carts and extend free medical care to people in the zone.

He thanked Governor Ikpeazu for initiating the programme which he said has been on since 2015 and the feed back has been appreciable by the people. He equally thanked Dr. Stella Kamula for assisting the State in getting the equipment

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Urban and Rural Health Services, Dr. Stella Kamula said the Governor is actually the facilitator of the medical mission.

She described the Governor as the real facilitator and commended him for his continuous efforts in getting medical equipment for the people of the State and assured they will continue to assist the State

Princess Ngozi Nwaguru, the Woman Leader of Physically Challenged Persons in the State thanked the Governor for initiating and commencing the mission as well as for having the physically challenged in heart.

The medical mission and distribution of mobility carts to physically challenged indigenes is part of the Governor’s way of showing care to the less privileged individuals in the State.

Deputy Governor Ude Oko Chukwu and Hon Uko Nkole of the National Assembly were amongst top functionaries of government that were present.
