Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the Secretary to the State Government, Arc. Chris Ezem to immediately suspend the Executive Secretary of Aba South Town Planning Authority for not providing needed supervision on the collapsed 3 Story building under construction at Azikiwe Road, Aba.
Speaking when he visited the site of the collapsed building to see things for himself, the Governor expressed dismay that the Executive Secretary allowed the building being constructed with substandard materials to go on.
He disclosed that the builder will be prosecuted.
According to him the concrete mix used for the building was so poor including the size of the rod
He , however, used the forum to warn all those who embark on constructions without approval to desist from such unlawful acts.
He maintained that the building collapse was an accident waiting to happen as the building still would have collapsed sooner or later due to the sub-standard materials used and sympathized with the families of the victims over the loss.
He further warned builders who block the road with building materials to desist from such.
Earlier, while showing the Governors round the affected building, the Ag. TC Chairman of Aba South LGA, Evang Fred Ogwo said that four bodies have so far been recovered from the rubble while the actual number of deaths have not been ascertained.
He attributed the building collapse to the use of sub-standard materials adding that effort is being made to get to the foundation of the building.
The Governor was accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu and other top officials of the State Government.
