PLATEAU (Fic Report)-A Multi-Million Naira Abbott Architect i1000 Automated Blood Screening Machine, supplied by Advanced Med Systems Limited (AMD), has been commissioned by Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, at the National Blood Transfusion Centre, North Central Zone, Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Simon Lalong described blood as the life wire of all humans and challenged Nigerians to think of those who are in need of blood donation at all times.

According to him, every donor gives a helping hand to those who are in dire need, saying it should be noted that “a giver shall surely reap the reward of this service to humanity’’.

Lalong called for proper and adequate maintenance of the donated blood screening machine to continuously improve the quality of service in the management of anemic patients, such as children, pregnant women, victims of road traffic accident, cancer patients and many others.

He urged the hospital management and the staff of the centre, to jealously maintain and preserve the machine in good serviceable condition, to cater for the needs of the North-Central Region. He assured the National Blood Transfusion Centre and the Federal Government that he would personally consider it a duty to schedule the Plateau State Ministry of Health, to ensure that the machine and other equipment in the Centre are maintained for the good of the people.

The Chief Medical Director, Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Dr Edmond Banwat, expressed gratitude that the machine is domiciled on the Plateau. He added that the coming of the machine as the Governor commenced his second term, indicates that he is starting governance in a sound footing to ensure safe blood for all.
