Malami expresses FG commitment to protect sanctity of Judiciary

Abuja (Min. of Justice) – The Hon Attorney General of Federation and Minister, Malami Abubakar, SAN has expressed President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to the establishment of independent of judiciary.

Malami made this known when he paid a congratulatory visits to the Chief Judge, Federal High Court of Appeal, Hon. John Tsoho and the President, National Industrial Court of Nigeria Hon. Justice Benedict Bakwaph on their newly appointments, on Wednesday 11th December, 2019.

Malami said his visit to their offices is in line with laydown procedure and the responsibility to identify with them while commending their appointment as call to serve.

He revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari has put in place a committee that will see to the execution of the amendment of the constitution that has been passed as regards independence of the judiciary. “I think we have an established tradition of respect for the sanctity of the court, court rule, court premises and respect to the interest of the independent of judiciary.”

He urged them to put the interest of Judiciary and the citizens at heart. “As you can rightly remember as a government we assented to amendment that gave effect to the independent of the judiciary at the state level, even among others.”

When responding to newsmen at the premises of the Federal High Court on the invasion of the DSS to arrest Sowore, he said the case is an exception and he could not be there for an exclusive case when they have thousands cases against the interest of the government.

He said that he did not visit the Chief Judge over Sowore’s case but to congratulate him on his confirmation by the Senate as the substantive Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.

Hon. Justice Benedict Bakwaph, President, National Industrial Court of Nigeria, in his response to the visit said, the court trial time is a major difficulties and as a specialised court theirs is to uphold justice.

The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the 5th day of November 2019 confirmed the nomination of His Lordship, Hon. Justice Benedict. B Kanyip as the President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria and Hon. John Tsoho, Chief Judge, Federal High Court of Appeal.
