Mangu dam is top priority project of water resources- Adamu

ABUJA (Water Ministry’ Report)- The Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman H. Adamu, has said that the Mangu dam located along Gindiri- Landai road in Plateau State is one of the top priority projects to be completed in 2017 by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.

The Minister disclosed this when the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Solomon Dalong, paid him a courtesy visit on Thursday June 22, 2017 in Abuja.

The Mangu dam project initiated by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources was initiated to provide potable drinking water to the communities in the region, dry season irrigation and provision of small hydro power station. The water treatment plant has been completed, remaining the other two components.

According to Adamu, the ministry inherited 116 abandoned projects across the country which the Mangu dam project is one of such projects. He said that after a rapid technical audit of all the abandoned projects, Mangu dam project was selected as a priority project to be completed in 2017 because of its benefits to the people of the region.

“90 percent of the projects abandoned are viable; they have potentials to benefit the people of the regions”, he said.

Responding, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Honourable Solomon Lalong commended the minister for his milestone achievements in the water sector.

He thanked the minister for including Mangu dam project as one of the projects to be completed in 2017 as this would benefit his people especially during the dry season farming. “We want to go into dry season farming, so we need water to be able to do that. And it is only your ministry that can provide water for that purpose”, he explained.
