Mid-Term Ministerial Performance Review: Oil and Gas Sector Records High Rating

The Nigerian oil and gas sector attracted encomiums and accolades at the recent mid-term Ministerial Performance Review Retreat held in Abuja.

This was made known by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Dr. Nasir Sani Gwarzo, mni, at a meeting with staff of the ministry and those of its agencies in Abuja on Thursday, 14th July, 2021. The meeting was a prelude to the Ministerial Scorecard and Staff Awards scheduled to hold in December, 2021. He informed that the evaluation of the performance of the oil and gas sector was done by highly skilled international experts, adding that representatives of the British government, Department for International Development (DFID) and other international management experts who were on ground gave the oil and gas sector a high recognition.

Delivering his address at the meeting, the elated Permanent Secretary stated that the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and its agencies have made giant strides, particularly the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill, its signing into law, as well as other remarkable achievements between 2019 and 2021.

He added that it was for this reason that Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources had approved the “Public Presentation of the Achievements of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources/Agencies and Staff Awards, 2019-2021”, scheduled to hold on 9th December, 2021 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

The Permanent Secretary acknowledged and commended the collaboration between the ministry and the agencies in the previous Ministerial Scorecards and Staff Award ceremony. He further solicited their partnership and support in this year’s exercise.

In a goodwill message, the representative of the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Sir Billy Okoye, congratulated the Permanent Secretary on the sector’s high ratings, wins and recognitions that coincided with his arrival at the ministry of Petroleum Resources. He informed that with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) now operational, NNPC Ltd. had been incorporated while the inauguration of the board was being awaited. He added that the development had marked a departure from non-profit to profit making and commercialization. Okoye sued for the support of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and other sister agencies in the quest to move sector and the country forward.

There were also goodwill messages from the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).
