MIGA 2016: Dambazau calls on participants to live the spirit beyond the games

ABUJA (Interior Ministry’ Report)-The Minister of Interior, Lt Gen Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (rtd), has called on the Services under the Ministry to replicate in the line of duty, the spirit of unity achieved in Ministry of Interior Games (MIGA) 2016, in order to realize the overall objective of organizing the Games.

Speaking at the closing of the MIGA 2016, the maiden edition of the biennial sports festival of the Ministry, the Minister enjoined the participants to continue beyond the Games, the spirit of harmony which they exhibited during the MIGA 2016, as it would achieve the purpose for which the Games was instituted – getting the Five Services to work in harmony to ensure public safety.

Gen. Dambazau described as incredible, the spirit of sportsmanship exhibited by the Ministry of Interior contingent, and saluted their gallantry in making the effort to compete with paramilitary services.
He commended the Kaduna State government for the open-ended invitation extended to the Ministry to host MIGA in Kaduna for as long as it wanted.

 

In a closing remark, the Minister for Sports, Solomon Dalung, commended the Ministry of Interior, the host of the Games, for showing good sportsmanship in the competition, adding that they were indeed champions of the Games, and also saluted all the teams for putting up a stellar performance.

While declaring the Sports Festival closed, the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Raufai, asked the Ministry of Interior to consider making Kaduna the permanent venue for MIGA. He appealed to the Sports Minister to provide more land near the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, venue of the Games, for its expansion.

He also noted that Sports was not only a unifier but also a potential foreign exchange earner for the country.

The Ministry of Interior Games (MIGA) is a Sports Festival instituted by the Minister, Lt Gen Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (rtd), for the purpose of forging harmony among the Services under the Ministry – Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) – to effectively achieve the Ministry’s mandate of ensuring public safety.
