The Honorable Minister of Police affairs, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi has said that providing security for all citizens is among the nine main priority areas of Government which has prompted the setting up of the Ministerial Project Coordination Committee to drive the implementation process and work out appropriate programmes and projects to accomplish the assigned priorities and deliverables.
He said this during the inauguration of a 13-man Ministerial Project Coordinating Committee in Abuja recently. Speaking further, Dingyadi enjoined the committee to see the opportunity to serve as a rare one, Dingyadi said, ”It is instructive to point out these Government priorities have been developed in line with the vision of this administration which are targeted towards building a prosperous economy, eradicating corruption and providing security for all”.
Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri said during the Presidential Retreat, a committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of the Vice President in March 2019 to review the performance of Government during the last four years and also articulate a programme of action which would provide strategic direction for the Administration’s next level agenda, 2019-2023. The committee developed the document titled “Delivering on government’s priorities 2019-2023, which features nine overarching government priorities, which security is among.
“The Ministry of Police Affairs was assigned the following specific priorities and deliverables: Ensure full implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) by all Agencies supervised by the Ministry: fully implement with the Nigeria Police, the Community Policing Policy; Ensure the recruitment of additional 400,000 policemen across the country; Establish a Federal Public-Private Security Trust Fund; Actively collaborate with the private sector to create a large number of well-paying jobs for Nigerian youths; implement a strategy towards the realization of Mr. President’s June 12 promise to take 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years” Mbaeri said.
According to Mbaeri, it was in the bid to effectively and adequately implement these priorities and deliverables for the benefit of Nigerians that the Ministry considered it imperative to constitute this Ministerial Project Coordination Committee (MPCC), which has been tasked to carry out specified duties.
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu who was present at the occasion said, “What we are doing is strategic, the Government of today does not want its activities to be business as usual. This Ministry is more like a watchdog and must see to the implementation of policies that will enhance the security matters in the country”.
The Chairman of the committee, and Director of Police Reforms Department in the Ministry, Mohammed A. Yahaya, pledged on behalf of the committee to carry out their duties efficiently and effectively as it’s a rare opportunity that has been given to them to participate in the architectural shaping of the security of the country.
The constituted members of the Ministerial Project Coordinating Committee (MPCC) of the Ministry of Police Affairs were drawn up of membership from both the Ministry and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). This approach is necessary in order for the two organs of Government to build a common front and provide the needed synergy to accomplish the assigned priorities and deliverables. The members of the committee are as follows:
