ABUJA – (Federal Ministry of Mines & Steel Development Report) – The Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Abdulkadir Muazu has identified efficient and accountable service delivery as panacea for the corruption cankerworm ravaging the public sector business in Nigeria.
Abdulkadir Mu’azu who was represented by the Director of Reform Coordination and Service Improvement in the Ministry, Atte Zaccheaus made this known when he declared open a one-day sensitization workshop with the theme: “Nipping Corruption in the Bud in MMSD” organized by the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit of the Ministry in Abuja lately.
He noted that the effort of the management has been to ensure that opportunities are not provided for corruption to thrive in the Ministry, reiterating the need to expose the staff to various ways by which corruption can be averted. He also thanked the Head of the Anti-Corruption and Transparwncy Unit (ACTU) in the Ministry, Umar Adamu Soho and his team for their well-planned workshop. He promised that the management will do its best to encourage the Unit in the fight against corruption.
The Permanent Secretary further enjoined the participants to utilize the opportunity to equip themselves with the relevant skills for identifying and averting corruption, considering the excellence and proficiency of the resource persons engaged in the workshop.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Bolaji Owasaonye (Prof) represented by an Assistant Commissioner in the Commission, Justin Kuatsea as well as one of the resource persons for the workshop said that the Mohammadu Buhari-led administration’s choice of the Mines & Sreel Development Ministry as one of the major agents in driving the economic diversification policy has made it imperative to maintain a zero tolerance to corruption in the Ministry. He pointed out that the ACTU in all MDAs is regarded as an extension of the ICPC.
Owasaonye charged the members of ACTU to be worthy Ambassadors of the Commission by performing the watch-dog role in the Ministry, in order to sustain a corrupt – free mining and steel sector.
