Abia Governor,Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has assured the Army and other security agencies in the State that the State government would work together with them to ensure criminal elements were dealt with in the State.
The Governor said this during the visit of the new Army Commander of the 14 Brigade,Ohafia,Brigadier General Abdul Ibrahim.
According to the Governor, Abia State is found in a confluence of many States which makes it easy for criminal elements to find their way into Abia,hence the need to beef up security in the State.
He urged the new Commander to assist the State in curbing armed-robbery and kidnapping as well as ensuring peace and tranquility,especially in the border areas of the State. The Governor assured them that the people of the State,who are always confident with the presence of the military would avail them of timely and accurate information,with which to fight crime.
He disclosed that the State instituted conflict resolution committee to handle the issues of herdsmen and farmers in Abia State,stating that the strategy has actually helped in maintaining peace.
He however stressed the need to ensure proper education and communication to both the herdsmen and farmers in the State.He assured the new Commander of a memorable stay in the State and thanked the Army for working hand in glove with other security agencies in the State.
Earlier,the newly posted Commander,14 Brigade,Ohafia,Brig. Gen. Abdul Ibrahim stated that he visited to introduce himself to the Governor.
He thanked the Governor for his sustained support of the Army and other security agencies in the State and promised to synergise with other security agencies to make Abia crime-free.
