NIGERIA LAUNCHES INDEPENDENT EVALUATION REPORTS ON SDGs 3 AND 4

Nigeria has launched Independent Evaluation Reports on Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) and 4 (Quality Education).

At the official launching of the two Goals at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja recently, the Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo while making his remark virtually stated that SDGs prioritize quality health and wellbeing for all while it also focuses on qualitative and inclusive education and lifelong learning for all.

The vice president said Nigeria has a suitable institutional framework and federal government will continue to promote strong partnership and synergizes amongst its Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and development partners for a coordinated implementation of SDGs in Nigeria. He said “these strategic evaluations reinforce the evidence for improving health and education outcome in Nigeria and highlight how all stakeholders both government, development partners and civil society can best address systemic gaps and challenges”. Saying that “this official launch comes with a responsibility for us to intentionally use the key findings of the two evaluations to strengthen policies for the achievement of SDGs in Nigeria”.

Also joined virtually, is the Deputy President of the United Nation, Hajiya Amina Mohammed. Hajia Amina described the reports as important and timely, stating that “strengthening the Nigerian Healthcare System is key to combating current and future pandemic. She said “the recommendations of the reports align with the focus areas of the transforming education financing on inclusive and equitable education especially for girls, lifelong learning, digital skills and education financing”.

She expressed optimism that with United Nation support, Nigeria can now improve policy formulation, implement better decisions more accurately and effectively, assign budgets and fulfill our promise to leave no-one-behind.

Earlier in her opening remark, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princes Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire expressed Nigeria’s commitment to the successful implementation of the SDGs, she noted that “effective implementation requires periodic evaluation to ensure progress measurement, generate knowledge and inform policy shift”
