One Year Anniversary Commemoration: We Will Continue To Meet Humanitarian Needs- Farouq

The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq has said that the Ministry will continue to double its efforts in meeting humanitarian needs of the Nigerian Citizens despite the scarcity of resources.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister shortly after the Jumat prayer at the Annur Mosque in Abuja on Friday, the Director Overseeing the office of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Grema Ali Alhaji, said that with the cooperation of the Ministry’s agencies, the Ministry has gone a long way in achieving its mandates and objectives.

“I want to express gratitude to Allah for giving us all the opportunity to be part of this great service to humanity, I also thank President Muhammadu Buhari for the creation of this ministry and giving me the opportunity to be part of this great achievement. This Ministry was created in August last year with the sole mandate to provide all humanitarian interventions to every vulnerable Nigerian.

“I am happy to say since the creation of the Ministry, we have been able to coordinate all humanitarian needs in the country and intervene in the lives of Nigerian citizens. I also want to place it on record that it would have not been possible without the support from the agencies under the ministry, our local and foreign partners and other concerned NGOs who have passion for service to humanity”, the Minister added.

Continuing, she said that the Ministry still has lots of plans targeted at providing more humanitarian aids to vulnerable Nigerians, but this plans are being hampered by the scarcity of funds which is a general challenge of every government establishment.

The Minister stated that collaborating with partners, donor agencies and NGOs, the Ministry will continue to do its best in carrying out its mandates.

Also speaking at the Jumat prayer, the Special Assistant on Media to the Honourable High Commissioner for the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Sadiq Abdullateef, said that the Ministry had done well in meeting humanitarian needs in it’s one year of existence and pleaded for more collaborate with stakeholders and support of Nigerians for the Ministry to achieve it’s objectives.

“Within one year, the Ministry has provided succour to vulnerable groups and people of concern, who were affected by disasters, floods, violence, and the Covid-19 lockdown. It has also empowered youths and women. Just recently, the Minister announced special plans for elderly citizens.

“Despite the effects of the pandemic, the Minister has remained focused in delivering on the mandate of the ministry. The prayer in the mosque today is to be able to move forward with the mercies of Allah and support of Nigerians” he said.

He disclosed that this Sunday, there will be a Thanksgiving church Service by the Ministry and its agencies  to appreciate God for the success so far recorded in the sector and the wisdom to do more for humanity.
